NATO war jets festival “rips” Beja skies and waits for 100,000 spectators.
Beja will host in May an air festival with more than 100 war jets and 3000 soldiers from 16 allied countries, with a forecast of 100,000 spectators, on May 17. We talk about the 2020 Nato Tiger Meet, which celebrates at the same time the 68th anniversary of the Portuguese Air Force.
B.A. No. 11 will receive the most sophisticated aircraft in military aviation, with the presence of 22 flight stations, from various nations, which have a “Tiger” as a symbol. Mention should be made of the German and Italian Tornado, the French Mirage, the F-16s from several countries including Portugal, the American A/OA-10 Thunderbolt II, the Lockheed 117 Nighthawk, the B-52 bomber, and the B-1 bomber.
But environmental and social issues are also in the spirit of the festival that will donate 20 thousand euros to a social institution, is plastic-free, has a partnership with the Food Bank and involves the planting of an undisclosed number of cork oaks and holm oaks inside the Air Base, where there are already several stands of these trees.
The NATO Tiger Association was created in 1961 and today has 24 associated squads from 18 allied countries.
The opening ceremony of the Tiger Meet is scheduled for May 10. On May 17th the air festival is held with the presence of several military aircraft and acrobatic patrols. The closing ceremony will take place on May 21.
